Income Protection
There are two main types of income protection, called “Accident, Sickness and Unemployment” or ASU and the other “permanent health insurance” or PHI.
Accident, Sickness and unemployment (ASU) cover
If you are made redundant, This type of policy will pay out within a short period of time, typically between 1 week and 1 month, and will then continue to pay out for up to 2 years, and then the policy stops.
Permanent Health Insurance (PHI) cover
This type of policy will pay out after a medium period of say typically 3-6 months (although you can choose a payout period of 1 month) and will continue to pay until you reach retirement age, or return to work, or die, whichever is sooner.
